Over 1,200 undergraduates and postgraduates joined their peers, families, friends, academics and Chancellor Dawn French to celebrate graduation this week.
The graduates were all personally congratulated by Dawn, who presented each of them with her highly sought after ‘Dawn Doubloon.’
Many of the graduates have already been making headway including Fine Art graduate George Stone starting a placement with Warner Bros., Popular Music graduate Danny Withers hitting the festival scene with band Tinnedfruit, Performance Sportswear Design graduate Isobel Rimmer starting an apprenticeship with Reebok and Animation & Visual Effects graduate Elisabeth Horne working for a Nordic film company.
Addressing the Class of 2016, Dawn said: “Here is the day you have worked for, the day you deserve. It’s a bit scary but have courage as you’re well equipped. Your Falmouth chapter may be closing but there is a new one about to start. I wish you luck. I wish you love. And I wish you the cheer of our Cornish motto, one and all – Onen hag oll.”
Music graduate Liam Pollard has set himself up as a freelance audio engineer in Cornwall. Liam said: “I’ve loved my three years. The music facilities are fantastic – industry standard with really great equipment.”
Illustration graduate Freddy Fuller and Fine Art graduate Chris Slesser won awards for Outstanding Contribution to Mentoring.
Freddy said: “It’s fantastic to win this award. I really enjoyed mentoring and they are an amazing team to work with. I’ve had a great time at Falmouth; it’s the best place I could have chosen.”
There was call for extra celebrations during Tuesday’s ceremony – and probably a Falmouth first – when Popular Music graduate Simon Willis surprised fellow graduate and girlfriend Lauren Groves with the ‘big’ question! Of course she said yes!
